Do I need a license to drink in Dubai?

Since 7 November 2020, the UAE has removed the law stating that anyone consuming alcohol must be in possession of a Dubai alcohol licence. Drinking alcohol without a license is no longer a crime, but you still need to obtain a license to buy and possess alcohol in Dubai.

To purchase or consume alcohol, adults who are not Muslims must still be over the age of 21. The process of obtaining an alcohol license used to be time-consuming and required many documents, but now it is much easier to apply.

How can I get an alcohol license in Dubai?

Starting January 1, 2023, alcohol licenses are free to obtain. All you need to get an alcohol license in Dubai is your Emirates ID card. Simply walk into an African + Eastern or MMI store with your ID card and the store staff will begin the process of placing your order, which takes about four weeks.

Do tourists need a license to buy alcohol in Dubai?
